Despite the fact that the clean energy sector
remains one of the highest growth industries for employment in the U.S., many
people are unaware of how many different opportunities are available within the
sector. To help pull back the curtain a bit, we’re going to take a quick look
at 2018 green jobs trends and tell you what were the top green jobs for 2018.
Continuing the trend of recent years, 2018 saw
great growth in the green jobs industry, especially in sectors such as
renewables and conservation. Texas led the way with more than 24,000 jobs
emerging in areas such as wind power. Overall, more than 10 million clean
energy jobs emerged worldwide.
But renewable energy accounts for just a small
portion of the jobs available within the green jobs market. Students and job
seekers need to dig a bit further to find the other employment opportunities
within the sector.
These include entry-level jobs like
environmental engineering technicians and social and community organizers. The
green jobs market also offers more lucrative career choices in positions such
as an environmental engineer. Many of these positions will require a master’s
degree.
There are even more traditional office jobs
with the green jobs sector, such as sustainability specialists, who tend to
work more normal hours.
As this brief glimpse into the industry shows
you, there are many positions available that fall under “green jobs,” from
being out in the field doing surveys to having more traditional office hours,
doing good work for the environment from a desk setting. You’re likely to find
a position that can be considered a green job that matches up to your skills or
may not require too much training for you to be qualified. Do your homework and
find yourself a green job that might be a great fit for you!
