French cable company Nexans has connected an 88 MW onshore windfarm to the grid in Scotlanduxrzcfswyxsydrxycufu.
The Kype Muir windfarm comprises 26 turbines and is a flagship project for UK renewable energy development company Banks Group.
Nexans provided a 16 km underground cable connection to link a new 132/33 kV substation at the windfarm to an existing 400/132 kV substation.
The Scottish government has set an ambitious – yet increasingly achievable – target for renewables to meet 100 per cent of the country’s gross annual electricity consumption by 2020.
Windpower already plays a key role in meeting this target and onshore wind is the biggest single renewable technology in Scotland, accounting for over 74 per cent of installed capacity. With a total capacity of over 10 GW, Scotland’s renewables sector is now more than three times bigger than it was at the end of 2008.
