Duke Energy Florida’s 74.9-MW Hamilton Solar Power Plant is now in operation, the company announced.
The Hamilton solar farm has capacity to provide electricity for more than 20,000 homes at peak production. Duke Energy Florida has about 300,000 solar panels in operation totaling 100 MW across its territory.
“Duke Energy solar projects bring the greatest amount of renewable energy on line for customers in the most efficient and economical way,” said Catherine Stempien, Duke Energy Florida (DEF) state president. “Building solar power plants like Hamilton is part of our ongoing strategy to offer sustainable, diverse and smarter energy solutions that our customers have told us they value.”
Work began at Hamilton in July 2018 and was brought online late last year. Tradewind Energy originally developed the project and Duke Energy finished it.
The utility plans to install or acquire 700 MW of solar energy in the state through 2022. Work on the Columbia Solar plant in Fort White is expected later this year.
