Snowy 2.0 is a pumped-storage hydro expansion of the existing Snowy Scheme and will provide 350,000 MWh of large-scale energy storage. Snowy Hydro says the project will provide 175 hours of storage for the National Electricity Market.

Snowy Hydro says the contracts are being finalized, and execution is subject to shareholder approval of the project. The value of the contracts was not disclosed.

The independent board of Snowy Hydro approved a final investment decision to proceed with the project in December 2018.

Snowy 2.0 is expected to cost $4.5 billion to develop.
