New York, 28 June— United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres will greet ministers and leaders from business and civil society, including youth delegates, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on 30 June as they gather to assess progress across all action areas of the Climate Action Summit, to be held at United Nations Headquarters on 23 September.
The Secretary-General has called for much greater ambition and bold actions backed by concrete plans at the Summit, in the areas of renewable energy, emissions reductions, sustainable infrastructure, sustainable agriculture and management of forests and oceans, withstanding climate impacts, and investing in the green economy.
The Secretary-General will convene over 1,700 people at the Abu Dhabi meeting – including youth delegates, ministers and leaders from business and civil society from over 160 countries around the world.
The following portions of the Abu Dhabi Climate Meeting will be livestreamed, starting at 10:30 GST: The Secretary-General’s opening remarks, and a dialogue between youth delegates and the Secretary-General, moderated by Shamma Al Mazrui, UAE Minister of State for Youth Affairs and the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, Jayathma Wickramanayake.
