You’ve got no problem advising family members on how to lead more environmentally friendly lives at home. However, you spend a good chunk of your life at work, too. So, shouldn’t your colleagues be exposed to your green evangelism as well?
If you’re serious about preserving the earth for your
children and your children’s children, it only makes sense to make your workplace
more eco-friendly. Here are a few ways you can turn your office into a green
working spot that Mother Earth would be proud of.
1. Say no to single-use plastics
For starters, you may want to introduce a policy banning the
use of single-use plastic products. For instance, you can use reusable containers
to replace takeaway boxes and plastic cups. You can even make this initiative
fun by creating a swear jar that a person has to put a couple of dollars in if
he or she uses single-use plastic. The money gained can easily go toward a
charity of the company’s choosing.
2. Get rid of
electronic waste properly
Electronic waste products, like laptops, batteries, and ink
cartridges, are filled will precious metals. Yes, you can recycle these products.
However, if they are not disposed of properly, they can cause major harm to the
environment. Do your due diligence to make sure that all of your office’s
e-waste goes to a company that will regularly collect and dispose of your
electronic waste.
3. Promote green gifting
Let’s say that you’re planning to have a gift exchange at
the office this holiday season. Try to set a green tone by promoting the
exchange of eco-friendly and fair-trade products. This can make the gifting
experience even more meaningful for your co-workers and for the company as a
whole.
