Green Technology Gets a Boost from COVID-19

You could say that the global pandemic — an enemy to so many industries — has essentially become  an ally to green technology and to those fighting climate change.  That’s because the government’s freezing of industrial activity and promotion of social distancing has already reduced the emission of greenhouse gases. In fact, 2020’s carbon emission level may end up being 8% lower than 2019’s — the largest annual decline in history. The benefits of this will likely only encourage more people to adopt green technology  and more eco-friendly practices in their daily lives.

On top of this, many companies are now turning to remote work and video conferencing in today’s post-COVID world. That means less traffic on the road and, in turn, less greenhouse gas emissions. And with many employers seeing the advantages of spending less money on office real estate, this is a green trend that doesn’t appear to be dying down anytime soon.

Finally, COVID-19 is changing the game for renewable energy  by reducing the demand for fossil fuels and driving up demand for solar and wind energy, for example. Favorable policies will only continue to support the push for renewables both nationwide and worldwide in the months and years ahead.
