The United Nations General Assembly, with support from the Governments of the Netherlands and Tajikistan, will convene the UN 2023 Water Conference in New York from 22 to 24 March 2023.
Access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene is the most basic human need for health and well-being, and a declared human right. Yet billions of people around the world still lack access to safe drinking water, andhumanity’s demand for water keeps growing, driven by rapidly rising population growth, urbanization and increasing pressures from the agriculture and energy sector. But there are solutions.
Against this backdrop, the Conference aims to raise awareness of the global water crisis, while deciding on concerted action to achieve internationally agreed water-related goals and targets. The main outcome will be the Water Action Agenda – a collection of all water-related commitments to accelerate progress on the Water Action Decade 2018-2028 and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
