WHAT:  With data critical to better policy making and addressing current global challenges, thousands will gather — in person and virtually — at the 4th UN World Data Forum on 24 to 27 April in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province to spur data innovation, foster partnerships and make the data ecosystem more resilient.  Organized by the United Nations and hosted by the National Bureau of Statistics of China and the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province, the Forum will be a unique opportunity to unlock the potential of better and more efficient data, enhance data credibility and leverage data for better decision-making.

WHEN: Monday, 24 April 2023, 10:00 a.m. Hangzhou time / 10:00 p.m. New York / 4:00 a.m. Geneva

WHO:

  • Mr. Li Junhua, UN Under-Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs
  • Mr. Mao Shengyong, Deputy Commissioner, National Bureau of Statistics, China
  • Mr. Stefan Schweinfest, Director, Statistics Division, UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA)

Other speakers will include the members of the High-level Group for Partnership, Coordination and Capacity Building for Statistics for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Programme Committee Members for the UN World Data Forum 2023.

WHY:  Strengthening data and statistics will help monitor progress on the Sustainable Development Goals, including climate action, and facilitate better decision-making from the regional to the global level. With a fast-changing data landscape, leveraging robust partnerships and bold innovations are critical to ensure that no one is left behind.

Representatives from governments, civil society, the private sector, international and regional organizations, academia and other data and statistics experts are expected to participate in this year’s Forum, the first in the Asia-Pacific region. The Forum will include over 100 events, 70 sessions, 6 plenaries, 30 special events and exhibitions and much more.
