It is with heavy hearts that the ACT2025 consortium shares that our esteemed partner, Prof. Saleemul Huq, has passed away. Our dear friend and colleague was a guiding star and a true leader in advocating for climate justice. He forged a path that made significant impact, particularly in the field of adaptation and loss and damage where his passion and commitment were unwavering. Saleemul has left an indelible mark in our collective fight against climate change, and his legacy will be felt for generations to come.
We would like to express our deepest condolences to Saleemul’s family and to all those who had the privilege to work alongside him and benefit from his wisdom, dedication and leadership.
In Saleemul’s own words, “What we are doing or not doing is going to severely affect our children and grandchildren. And it’s in our hands, we’re the only generation that can leave the world somewhat better, or a hell of a lot worse.”
Saleem will be deeply missed. As the consortium, we are more determined than ever to carry forward the work of Prof. Huq, especially in the critical area of loss and damage. In this time of grief and reflection, we will honor him by carrying on his work and advocating for the better and more just world that he envisioned.
