Autumn is a great season for road riding and for getting out and enjoying the unique scenery created by nature. But fall also means shorter days, frequent showers, and more severe temperatures…
With electric bikes like the Magicycle Cruiser Pro, you can go further and see more colors of fall. You can rely on its impressive weight capacity to take more gears on the road without hampering your ride. With the headlights and taillights, we have configured for every electric bike for sale, which can be ready for an earlier sunset on those shorter days.
Here are a few tips for enjoying your fall commute and traveling in the cooler season.
1. Check the Weather Forecast
The weather at this time of year changes quickly and often, we can be caught in showers. To protect yourself from the cold or humidity, plan ahead, check the weather forecast and bring appropriate clothing with you. For example, carry a waterproof jacket or vest that can be tucked into your pannier bag. Dressing in multiple layers can also give you flexibility as the day warms up and your body temperature rises.
2. Avoid Falling Leaves
The leaves look pretty, but once they’re on the ground, they can be a hazard to cyclists as they can hide trash, stones, etc. that could lead to punctured tires.
Riding in leaves and mud puddles can mess up your bike, especially when any junk splashes on your wheels and ruins your ride. Fallen leaves can also pose a hazard by covering potholes, gutters, rocks, or any other object protruding from the ground. Even though they appear dry on the surface, the ones below the ground are likely to be wet, which will quickly cause traction problems.
Also, wet leaves are almost as slippery as ice. They become dangerous in the fall when the trees lose most of their leaves during the season. While modern e-bike tires have a very good grip on the road, no matter the situation, you should consider avoiding those fallen leaves as much as possible to be on the safe side.
Install front and rear fenders to protect your bike (and your shoes, pants, etc.) before the rainy season, and of course, Magicycle gives each bike a set of front and rear fenders for a worry-free ride. It’s also a good idea to keep an eye on tire pressure. As the outside temperature drops, so does your PSI – especially if your bike is stored on cold concrete.
3. Keep It Light
In autumn, daylight hours reduce. Shorter days mean earlier, darker nights. As the nights draw in, it’s even more important to make sure you’re visible. Meanwhile, the air is more humid and foggy in the fall, resulting in reduced visibility, which means proper lighting is crucial. It’s about more than just being able to see on your ride — it’s about being seen on your ride. Especially by cars.
Checking sunrise and sunset times before you start planning your ride will allow you to reduce the risk of riding home in the dark. Get your headlights and taillights ready for your electric bike, but be sure to check that they’re clean, functional, visible, and safe before every ride. Taking extra precautions, great clothing with subtle reflective stripes or items with reflective inserts can offer you greater security at dusk or at night.
Here we recommend amazing gear that makes you be seen on the ride. Our smart helmet BH51M Neo features front LED lights and 270° taillights to protect you in all directions to draw front and rear vehicles’ and pedestrians’ attention. With fall detection and press for SOS, in the event of an accident, the emergency system will kick in automatically and send your GPS location to your emergency contacts, more features check out Magicycle’s accessories page!
4. Maintain the Chain, Clean Your Ebike!
Taking care of your beloved bike is the best way to reduce mechanical problems during fall riding. Checking and cleaning your brakes, gears and any moving parts is a good routine to make sure everything is in order and ready for your next ride.
The chain is one of the main components of electric bikes and can be affected by the season. In fall, it dries much faster than in summer, so make sure it stays well lubricated. Another particularly important part of ebikes is the brakes, which need to be checked more frequently to prevent mud, water, sand, etc. from wearing out in a more severe way.
Wet and dirty roads tend to kick up a lot of dirt and get your chain and ebike dirty. Make sure to clean the chain more often and keep electric mountain bikes as clean as possible. By taking a few minutes to clean and lubricate the chain, you’ll extend the life of the cassette, chain ring, and chain itself; shifting will also be quieter and smoother. It is always advisable to have your electric bike fully maintained before long trips or depending on how often you use it.
5. All-season Tires!
Consider replacing your beloved bike’s tires with some all-purpose rubber; improved grip on wet surfaces and more puncture resistance will keep your road bike ride safe from unexpected breakdowns.
Magicycle’s fat tire electric bikes feature 26″x4″ Kenda tires, puncture-resistant tires provide upgraded grip and traction, facilitating your riding on various terrains, non-slip for even rainy days! It can help your family and you explore the unique beautiful fall scenery with a more enjoyable and comfortable riding experience. You don’t need to re-select an all-season tire for an expensive cost, our ultimate goal is to constantly provide you with affordable and high-quality electric mountain bikes.
6. Waterproof Pannier Bag
The fall climate is humid and prone to rain, and if you commute with a regular backpack it will wet your carry-on, not to mention your laptop or any other valuables you pack there. The waterproof bag will keep your changing clothes, essential electronics, and other items from getting damaged. Magicycle offers fireproof battery bags, waterproof bike rack bags, waterproof pannier bags, and other bags with high quality and large capacity, all are good choices for you, just check out Magicycle.
7. Drink water, Stay Hydrated
As with other seasons, it’s a good habit to drink and stay hydrated while riding in the fall. What may happen is that due to the climate, the lower temperature you perceive makes you less focused and your thirst response numbs; nonetheless, your body still needs to replace the fluids and salts lost during exercise.
8. Keep Your Vision Clear
Rain can get into our eyes and blur our vision, not to mention it’s annoying! To keep the rain out of your eyes, consider glasses with clear or light-tinted lenses, and if you don’t want to wear glasses, or if you find water droplets on your lenses more distracting than the rain itself, try a helmet with a visor, or try a baseball cap.
9. Keep Dry
In the fall, the weather is more changeable and we may experience showers. But rain doesn’t necessarily stop us from riding. Good rain gear will keep you dry and warm and will keep you on your ebike in even the most downpours. But if you don’t have a raincoat with you and you’re far from home, stop and seek shelter. If you avoid getting soaked, the cold you have to endure won’t be too bad. On the contrary, your body will burn a lot of energy to maintain a constant body temperature.
10. Customize the Perfect Ride
When you’re stocking up on other supplies for the perfect fall, some things like a front-mounted basket can make a big difference, and make you convenient.
