The 61st Session of the United Nations Commission for Social Development (CSocD61) will take place from 6 to 15 February 2023 in conference room 4 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Review of relevant United Nations plans and programmes of action pertaining to the situation of social groups
(i) Outcome document of the high-level meeting of the General Assembly on the realization of the Millennium Development Goals and other internationally agreed development goals for persons with disabilities: the way forward, a disability-inclusive development agenda towards 2015 and beyond;
(ii) World Programme of Action for Youth;
(iii) Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing, 2002;
(iv) Family issues, policies and programmes.

Preparations
Her Excellency Ms. Alya Ahmed Saif Al-Thani, Permanent Representative Ambassador of Qatar and Chair of the CSocD61 convened an informal virtual briefing on the preparations of the Commission on Friday 13 January 2023 at 10am. The briefing featured highlights of the CSocD61 by Ms. Daniela Bas, Director, Division for Inclusive Social Development, UNDESA.

The Bureau of the Commission for Social Development will organize an informal inter-session preparatory meeting to support Member States and other stakeholders for engagement in the upcoming 61st session to deliberate on the priority theme. The Commission session is expected to adopt a resolution on the priority theme with action-oriented policy recommendations. The informal preparatory meeting will be held virtually on Tuesday, 13 December from 1:15 pm to 2:45 pm.

NGO Committee on Social Development
The NGO Committee on Social Development is dedicated to raising awareness and holding discussions on social development issues taken up by the UN System and in particular by the UN Commission for Social Development. The committee holds a Civil Society Forum and other capacity-building and outreach events on the occasion of the Commission. Civil Society Forum on the CSocD61 Priority Theme, 10 February 2023
The Forum is hosted jointly by UNDESA-DISD, the NGO Committee on Social Development and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Foundation. The Forum is a time for NGOs worldwide to learn about each other’s work, to prepare for the Commission, including by work on position papers and interventions.
