Champions League and five-time Scudetto winner with Inter, and former captain of the Argentinian national football team, Javier Zanetti has been an advocate for the Sustainable Development Goals for many years. As Vice President at Inter he actively engages with the club’s corporate social responsibility projects in Italy, focusing on Inclusion and Educational programmes, and abroad through Inter Campus, which started 1997 and is active in dozens of countries today. Mr. Zanetti also serves as the ambassador for the Inter Campus Programme, a major initiative that contributes to the development of local communities in 30 countries around the world, supporting educational, social and sanitary protection programmes. Inter Campus aims at giving back to children in need – aged 6 to 13 – the opportunity to play and the right to education, through the values of sport and the game of football.
Additionally, Mr. Zanetti is FIFA ambassador for the SOS Children’s Villages project in his home country of Argentina, where he lends a voice to promote the rights of children. In 2001, Zanetti also created the PUPI Foundation to support socially disadvantaged children. The foundation works towards the protection of the rights of children and adolescents in targeted areas in Argentina, focusing on socio-educational, cultural, sports and health issues. The creation of the foundation was inspired by the difficulty he experienced in his own childhood and is aligned with his belief and commitment that “public actions need to take into account social responsibility.”
