Thinking of going for a spring vacation this
year or perhaps even jaunting off during Spring Break? If so, then consider the
impact you’re making on the environment when you visit.
You’re likely eco-conscious at home since
you’re reading this blog, so why not do the same when you’re away? You can’t
take a vacation from taking care of the planet! Here are a few quick tips to
have a more green spring break while you avoid your green job or other
responsibilities.
Pack a Reusable Straw
Yes, straws seem to have drawn the majority of
the ire from the green community, but with good reasons! Single-use plastic
straws are everywhere these days and filling up the landfills. You can do your
part and make sure you don’t add to the pile of waste by bringing along your
own straw.
Bring a Reusable Water Bottle Too
Take your efforts a step further beyond the
straw and pack a reusable water bottle as well. You’ll likely be able to find
places to fill your bottle all throughout your trip which will help you save
money. Buying water is a wasteful expense anyway! You can even grab a bottle as
a souvenir at your destination and use it when you come back home.
Use Eco-friendly Sunscreen
Sunscreen is killer our coral reefs, so do
your homework and make sure that your sunscreen is not one of the culprits. The
eco-system will thank you! Look for “reef-friendly” sunscreens, or if you don’t
see it, check the ingredients for oxybenzone (BP-3) and octinoxate. If they’re
in the ingredients, don’t use that sunscreen!
These are a few quick and easy ways you can be
more green on your spring vacation with minimal effort. You’ll feel good doing
your small part while on holiday!
