Going green is easily a reward in and of itself. However, getting paid to go green – well, that’s like icing on the cake. That’s why green jobs are becoming increasingly in demand at a time when more and more people recognize the value of taking care of the earth long term.
The question is, which green jobs can help you to see more “green” in your bank account? Here’s a rundown on three environmentally focused careers that pay far above the current median wage of more than $38,000 per year for all career areas.
1. Environmental Scientist
This job role, which pays a median wage of more than $71,000
per year, will allow you to analyze how humans affect the earth. Your job will
be to pursue solutions to today’s pressing environmental problems, which often
stem from such pollutants and hazards as contaminated water and air supplies.
You’ll also provide your two cents regarding whether certain new developments
pose a serious threat to Mother Earth.
2. Atmospheric Scientist (Meteorologist)
In this role, where the median wage is more than $94,000 per
year, you’ll create tools and forecasts for collecting weather information and
advising people on risks related to it, such as the threat of a hurricane. In
addition, if you’re working for a large company, you may need to do some
climate research, which will require a master’s degree or PhD.
3. Hydrologist
In this position, you can expect to earn a median of more than $79,000 per year. A hydrologist analyzes how water’s movement impacts the environment. Therefore, in this role, you’ll test pollution or pH levels by collecting soil and water samples. You can probably claim a hydrologist job with a master-level degree. However, if you would like to be an advanced researcher, you will likely need a doctoral degree.
